Don Limpert, G.A.R. Collector and Donor to the Museum
Don Limpert is a long-time collector of Grand Army of the Republic items. He saw the possibilities of combining his vast collection of GAR memorabilia with an original Grand Army of the Republic post building that was available to purchase in downtown Eaton Rapids.
With his experience in renovation and in the preservation of historical buildings in his hometown of Manchester, Michigan, he knew he had stumbled across the ideal location for a GAR Museum. He purchased the building in 2012, created a Board of Directors and the museum was established shortly after.
The museum holds just a small fraction of Mr. Limpert's collection. In addition, we have been honored to receive artifact donations from many individuals and groups since the museum has opened. These objects continue to tell the story of our Civil War veterans and their families.
